Efficient storage

The kitchen

In a kitchen, everything must be practical and useful. The main source of visual cluttering in this room is the counter. You may not want to put the toaster in a cupboard every morning but the mixer doesn’t have to be available all the time. Put it away, along with every other piece of equipment that is not frequently used.

  • Limit the number of small appliances on the counter and use multi-tasking appliances.
  • Gather kids dishes in a basket in the lower cupboards. It will be easily organized and easy to reach for children.
  • If you leave a dish-drying rack in full view, buy a nice one or install a sink with built-in drainboards.
  • If you renovate, make sure that the top cupboard is as deep as the fridge. It will give you additional storage and it will be easier to reach.
  • Have a container for the contents of your pockets, papers, money, etc.

A teenager’s bedroom

Your teenager's bedroom is a disaster. You even invented new words to describe this horrendous place where food and clothes seem to blend into a new kind of carpet but your child doesn't seem to mind. What can you do?

My child is smelly!

Your child is now 6 years old. The innocence of childhood still shines brightly in his or her eyes but… they're smelly! When your child gets hot, you scrunch your nose and smell a tinge of sweat. Are they too young for deodorant?
