Efficient storage

The basic rule

A very simple rule that makes cleaning and storing easy is to sort your things first. The less you have, the less you need to put away. Throw away broken, outdated or unused things. In doubt, keep the object in a box in a discreet place like a wardrobe or the basement and if you haven’t used it by next year, throw it away.

The kitchen

In a kitchen, everything must be practical and useful. The main source of visual cluttering in this room is the counter. You may not want to put the toaster in a cupboard every morning but the mixer doesn’t have to be available all the time. Put it away, along with every other piece of equipment that is not frequently used.

  • Limit the number of small appliances on the counter and use multi-tasking appliances.
  • Gather kids dishes in a basket in the lower cupboards. It will be easily organized and easy to reach for children.
  • If you leave a dish-drying rack in full view, buy a nice one or install a sink with built-in drainboards.
  • If you renovate, make sure that the top cupboard is as deep as the fridge. It will give you additional storage and it will be easier to reach.
  • Have a container for the contents of your pockets, papers, money, etc.

The living room
  • Buy pretty baskets to store the toys in the living room.
  • Find a double use for your furniture every time you get the chance. A hollow ottoman can be used to store toys, some tables have a removable top and can contain books and DVDs, an armchair can hide a compartment where you will keep blankets.
The bedroom
  • Use the space under your bed. Use storage baskets on wheels that will allow you to put away off-season clothes. If you don’t like the sight of your baskets, buy a bed skirt that matches your room’s linens and you will soon forget about it.
  • Try hermetic storage bags.
  • Organize your wardrobe with shelves, poles, baskets and shoe compartments.
The bathroom
  • Baskets, baskets, baskets. Each family member has his own basket to put away his personal care products when he doesn’t need it.
  • The same goes for house cleaning and laundry products.

General tipS
  • Light up your storage areas.
  • If you have opened cluttered spaces like the laundry area of the bathroom or the pantry, hide it with a curtain that matches your décor.
  • Store, sort and throw away as you go.
  • Set a clear gift policy for your friends and family. Money for your children’s RESP, activities (spa, theatre, etc.), or donations to charitable organizations are less likely to clutter your house.

Ear infections, antibiotics, and prevention

Becoming a parent also means being acquainted with several small infections encountered during our own childhood. Ear infections are numerous and can leave you having lots of questions. We try to respond to the most frequent ones.

My child is often absentminded!

Do you find yourself often repeating phrases like "Hello? Is anyone there?" ? If so, it seems that your child is often absentminded. Here's how to help your distracted children stay concentrated.

A teenager’s bedroom

Your teenager's bedroom is a disaster. You even invented new words to describe this horrendous place where food and clothes seem to blend into a new kind of carpet but your child doesn't seem to mind. What can you do?

My child is smelly!

Your child is now 6 years old. The innocence of childhood still shines brightly in his or her eyes but… they're smelly! When your child gets hot, you scrunch your nose and smell a tinge of sweat. Are they too young for deodorant?
