COVID-19 - Back to school: Preparing children for changes

Teachers and workers wearing visors and masks

An adult who wears a mask and a visor can be a little intimidating for some children. Children usually have a great deal of affection for their teachers, so it is important to make them understand that they are wearing the mask and visor to protect themselves from the virus and thus be able to continue teaching them.

Possible temperature measurement before entering the classroom

Some schools may decide to take the temperature of the students before they enter the classroom. Since there are a few days left to prepare, why not start doing it at home and introduce it to your morning routine?

Social distancing

Children have grown accustomed to the 2 meters distance with others, whether it is going for a walk or going to the grocery store with mom. However, there is a big difference between following this rule with strangers and enforcing it with their friends whom they greatly missed. They must therefore be reminded of the reasons why it is important to respect this distancing.

A very different way of life

The schedule that children are used to will be changed to better suit the situation. To avoid trips to school, the subjects will have to be taught in the same room and, in some schools, children will have to have lunch in their class. In addition, parents will not be admitted to schools.

The absent friends

Since returning to school will not be mandatory, it can be expected that several students will be absent. Children will have many questions about this. Why are some of their friends not in school? Are they sick? We will have to comfort them and make them understand that it is important to respect every family’s decision.
