10 funny dinners ideas

Family dinners are important. We know that. Let’s see if we can bring a touch of fantasy to make those meals memorable and part of our family traditions.

Brunch for dinner

Who said that breakfasts and brunches are not appropriate for dinner? Go ahead and prepare a table with eggs, waffles, pancakes, French toasts, toasts, beans, fruits, etc. and eat in pyjamas!

Sausage tasting

Visit your butcher or your grocery store (some offer a great selection of sausages) and choose sausages with your family (one of each). Taste sausage by sausage all the same and play food critic. You can rate them in a little notebook. Toulouse, merguez, spinach, cheese, spicy or mild Italian, everyone will have their favourite. Serve with rice and vegetables.

Pastas and sauces trio

Three kinds of pasta and three different sauces and off you go for a trip to Italy! Mix tortellini, spaghetti, ravioli, penne and fusilli with rose, carbonara, Bolognese or pesto sauces. You can also vary the breads: garlic, au gratin, with herbs, etc.

Upside down

Each item of the dinner is numbered: fork, spoon, knife, napkin, bread, spaghetti, water, desert and salad (or appetizers). In turn, draw three times three numbers for each service. You may end up eating your spaghetti with a spoon and a glass of water for desert! It’s very funny with preteens.

Pizza-party

Everyone makes his own pizza with his favourite ingredients. You can share all your secret recipes and turn the table into a pizza bar. A fruit pizza for desert? Why not?

Like in your favourite family restaurant!

Like in a sports bar: Nachos, Buffalo wings, chicken fingers, blue cheese dip, BBQ ribs, breaded shrimp, etc. (many of those products are available in grocery stores)
Like Chez Cora: Eggs, waffles, pancakes, French toasts, fresh fruits cocktails, etc. Yes, even for dinner!
Like KFC: fried chicken, BBQ sauce, chicken soup and coleslaw.
Like Pizza Hut: Pizza, pasta and desert bars.
And you? What will be your restaurant?

The clown plate

Simple! Just dress up the plate by placing the food to represent an animal, an object, a place, etc. You can even try to represent a member of the family in each plate.

Juice & cheese

They are too young for “Wine and cheese” but they will surely appreciate this lighter version. Find new and original juices to accompany all the cheese varieties. It’s an experience to repeat. Add a few appetizers and it will become a fun meal!

Noodles bar

Enjoy a good noodles meal like in your favourite Asian restaurant! Place different vegetables in separated bowls on the counter. Everyone will choose the vegetables to sauté. After, you must choose between two types of marinated meats and between two types of noodles. The family Chef will then prepare everyone’s plate. You could also have sushi for appetizers.

Musical raclette

Everyone chooses meat, vegetable, cheese, sauce, dip, marinade, etc. Then, you play musical chair: once your portion started to cook, everyone gets up, you play a song and when it stops, everyone sits on the chair in front of him. You laugh, you eat, you prepare another mini pan and you start over. It’s funny and it allows you to try new tastes. Carefully choose ingredients that everyone will like.
