Woman

10 inspirational women

Anne Bancroft

From Mary Magdalene in Jesus of Nazareth to Dustin Hoffman’s mistress in the Graduate, Anne Bancroft could pull anything off. She was also amazingly poignant in Great Expectations and by that time, she was almost 70. Above all, she never stopped being beautiful, and eccentric and wonderful and she is the reason why we should never fear growing old.

Kate Winslet

She is a gorgeous woman and although she has lost a bit of weight in the past years, she will always represent a natural woman who has a womanly shape, a bit like Monica Bellucci, for her fans. She also fought back when a magazine decided to modify her pictures and this is why we love her so much, because she wants beauty to be natural and achievable.

Molly Ringwald

Who doesn’t remember her in Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club? She was the ultimate teenager and she made it okay to be young, to make mistakes and to be different. Maybe John Hughes wrote the parts but she played it in a way that truly moved us all and made us who we are. In the meantime, she became a writer and a mother.

Jade Raymond

The videogames industry is still pretty much ruled by men but this beautiful girl made it as producer of Assassin’s Creed and was named Managing Director of Ubisoft Toronto in 2009. She is also mother of two, volunteers for a non-profit organization dedicated to ending violence among youth and she is only 37.

Kate Middleton

Buckingham was in trouble for the past decades. Treason, anorexia, lies and adultery seemed to be the only things stemming from the palace where the Queen tried so hard to glue everything back together. Then Kate arrived. She is beautiful, gracious, kind and she brought a lot of joy in what appears to be the beginning of a true fairy tale. We can’t wait to see their baby!

The Famous Five

This group of women has changed the face of Canada when they asked the Supreme Court of Canada if the word “persons” in the British North America Act included female persons. The first answer was negative and was overturned by the British Committee of the Privy Council. This is how these five women have not only improved our women’s rights but also the way we see our constitution and the possibility to make it evolve.

J.K. Rowling

This writer has changed the face of magic and just that fact could be enough to make her a very inspirational woman, but she did it in such a cute way that we have to mention it. J.K. Rowling started writing Harry Potter on napkins while she was a single mother traveling by train. She then wrote her novel on an old typewriter and her manuscript was refused 12 times before Harry Potter was given a chance to become the wizard that we know. That is what we call perseverance.

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore was the cute little girl in E.T., she was a sex symbol in Charlie’s Angels and she was the cutest bride in the Wedding singer. She had a full career that started very early and she had a very troubled teenage period but she was always bubbly and inspiring and always made us feel like life was fun and worth living. For that, we love her!

Michelle Obama

She is the first African-American First lady in a very difficult economic period and although she often faces criticism, she remains noble, passionate, fashionable and loving and it is that love that makes her so admirable. She also supports several non-profit organizations and seems to sincerely want the best for America.

Sheryl Crow

There are several folk singers out there and Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch are all inspirational women to me but Sheryl Crow has made folk trendy and she managed to be a beautiful woman without betting on her body for fame at a time when everyone else did. Also, we have to give her credit for making us like Flash McQueen even when he was awful.

Ear infections, antibiotics, and prevention

Becoming a parent also means being acquainted with several small infections encountered during our own childhood. Ear infections are numerous and can leave you having lots of questions. We try to respond to the most frequent ones.

A teenager’s bedroom

Your teenager's bedroom is a disaster. You even invented new words to describe this horrendous place where food and clothes seem to blend into a new kind of carpet but your child doesn't seem to mind. What can you do?

My child is smelly!

Your child is now 6 years old. The innocence of childhood still shines brightly in his or her eyes but… they're smelly! When your child gets hot, you scrunch your nose and smell a tinge of sweat. Are they too young for deodorant?
