The essential qualities of a board game
- Presentation (beautiful illustrations, attention to detail, etc.)
- Material quality (cardboard, solid for toddlers)
- Clear rules
- Level of difficulty (which increases the lifespan of a game and allows children of different ages to play together)
- The duration of a round (ideally between 10 and 15 minutes for 3-5 years olds)
- Variations (to increase the lifespan of a game)
How to encourage toddlers to play
- Read the rules in advance
- Simplify as much as possible
- Present the material in naming objects or images
- The first round should not last more than five minutes
- Fun above all: stop as soon as your child seems to have enough
- Learning to follow rules is hard for most children. You must give them some time to learn and respect them. Point out their progress.
