15 refreshing ideas

Drink!

Drink lots and lots and lots of water! Place water bottles in the refrigerator to always have cold water on hand. Above all, drink even if not thirsty, because if you don’t, you will get dehydrated quickly.

Take a warm shower before bedtime

But don’t overdo it! You shouldn’t add too much warmth to the existing heat!

The pool

Diving in a pool is always wonderful but dipping in the pool before bedtime is awfully cool!

Camping inside

Is it terribly hot in the bedrooms? Why don’t you temporarily convert your basement into a cool camping site for the whole family?

Camping outside

Is it terribly hot in the bedrooms AND the basement? Why not camp in your backyard for a night? You can use a tent or stargaze all evening and sleep under the stars.

Air conditioning

You don’t own an air conditioner? Why don’t you go window-shopping in an air conditioned mall? You could also go see a movie; it is always dark and cool in a movie theater.

Ice pack

Carry your ice pack around… and sleep with it. Putting your pillow in the freezer could also be a wonderful idea to sleep tight.

Fans

Install fans in strategic locations to increase the airflow around your house.

Dehumidify

You are not equipped with gills and humidity is weighing you down? When installed in catastrophically warm rooms, dehumidifiers help make the air more breathable.

Open window

The nights are cooler than the days? Place fans by the windows to redistribute the outdoors coolness in the house during the night.

Closed curtains

During a heat wave, keep the curtains or shades closed on those windows where the sun is most intense during the day. That way, you will keep the heat from radiating inside. If your kids like vampire movies or books, they will surely enjoy a bit of darkness in the house.

Wear damp clothes

Soak your clothes in cool water, wring them and remove the excess water (you wouldn’t want water damage to top up the heat wave) and go about your business feeling cooler.

Feet in the water

Since the body extremities are more sensitive to heat and cold, why not enjoy a footbath in cold water?

Cold buffet

It is indeed really hot. Do you really feel like hanging in front of the stove, the oven or even melt in front of the barbecue? Eat fruits, sandwiches and drink a lot of ice-cold water. And you can also eat lots of popsicles and other frozen treats to make the afternoon more bearable and get the kids to stop running for a few minutes.

Placebo movie

Your little nest is a real furnace? Bring a little winter to your house by watching a cold themed movie. You can watch Ice age for example or a Christmas movie such as the Santa Clause. Have a look at the South Pole with March of the penguins. Bury yourself under the ice with the film The Day After Tomorrow. And why don’t you do so behind closed curtains, wearing damp clothes with an ice pack on your forehead, a chilled magic bag behind your back, taking a cold footbath and eating popsicles? Chills guaranteed!
