Why is it a « French » kiss?
According to Theodor Hendrik Van de Veld, a young couple in Northern France used to kiss for hours and would have called this game of putting their tongue as deeply as possible in each other’s mouth a “French kiss”.
For others, it is after the Great War that American soldiers would have first mentioned the French kiss. After discovering the European sexual freedom, these soldiers wanted to share this new way of kissing that they had learned from beautiful French girls.
Kissing diseases
Sometimes, herpes or mononucleosis are called THE kissing disease but there are many more diseases that can be caught that way like varicella and the flu. Some allergies can also be triggered that way and a girl from Saguenay already died because her kissing partner had eaten peanut butter.
However, these situations are quite rare and kissing usually has the opposite effect. According to Dr. Damien Mascret, “kissing leads to a bacterial exchange that helps our body respond and fight external attacks by making antibodies”.
Knowing that kissing burns calories, boosts your immune system and gets you closer to your partner, you can now kiss away! To get inspired, watch this cult scene from Cinema Paradiso before kissing.
