October goes pink for breast cancer

Breast cancer is still the most frequently diagnosed cancer in Canadian women as 23,200 women will be diagnosed this year and, of them, 5,300 will die.

On a positive note, we are making a lot of progress and, this year, the Canadian Cancer Society is investing $2.7 million to support world-class breast cancer research. It also recently made the news headlines with two ground-breaking cancer clinical trials that will help prevent and treat breast cancer around the world. We like hope, we like pink!

TELUS goes pink

This year again, Telus does more than its share by giving $1 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation every time someone creates a photo gallery in the “Be part of the Pink Network, Celebrate your breast friends“ Facebook initiative. Their goal is to raise $250,000 for early detection research and treatment. Until December 31st, Telus will also contribute $25 to the Foundation for each purchase of a pink Blackberry Curve and an additional $5 with each purchase of select pink accessories.

Rise and shine

On Facebook again, P&G’s Rise & Shine page allows you to click play and give $1. Throughout October, they will post a series of funny videos featuring a Canadian comedian. Every time you watch one, P&G will give $1 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, in addition to contributing an initial $275,000. Rise, shine and get up to something good.

Lace Up for the Cure

Exercise is wise! Run for the cause in the right shoes. Both beautiful and comfortable, the New Balance pink collection will give you the motivation you need to get your 30 minutes of daily physical activity and reduce the risk for breast cancer.

Thingamaboob

The Thingamaboob, an educational tool to help you become familiar with your breasts and to know what you are looking for, is sold by the Canadian Cancer Society in a cute gift-ready pink box.

Build like a girl

Landmark will contribute a portion of the proceeds for each pink tool sold until December 31, 2011 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The line-up includes a hammer, measuring taper, utility knife, spirit level and leather tool belt. So let’s get working ladies!
