Test bench - Freestyle double electric breast pump from Medela - Results

Vanessa Bonato, Montreal Quebec

I have been using the Medela Freestyle double electric breast pump for a month now and it really lives up to my expectations. I was so happy when I learned that I had been chosen for the test bench. For me, the breast pump is an essential accessory. With my first baby, I used the single Medela pump and was very happy with the results, but the double saves so much more time and if you use the Medela bra also, you have two free hands at the same time, which for a mom is time-saving and genius! It feels very comfortable and is also powerful. I also like the fact that the machine is very easy to use and that the format is discreet. I remember my first breastfeeding experience. I was so insecure and for that reason, I did not breastfeed as long as I would have liked. There is also a 24/7 helpline to call if ever you have any concerns and questions which is very much appreciated when you are a first-time mom and not exactly sure if you’re doing things right. Once again, it gets two thumbs up from me!

I was lucky to participate in the test bench for the Medela Freestyle breast pump. From the start, I must admit that I had an automatic breast pump from another brand but, after using the Medela Freestyle breast pump, I am quite charmed by this gem that makes life easier for active moms. Being very busy, I need a tool that facilitates breastfeeding or pumping anywhere. It is small, practical, easy to transport, and discrete. I would have loved to have it for my first child… Now, I wouldn’t know how to live without it! Medela is the BMW of breast pumps. The battery holds its charge very well… you can even pump in the changing room of a SPA in complete peace. My only comment is that since it is sold as freestyle, I think the product would get added value by including a freehand attachment, or a bustier for easy pumping. I definitely recommend this product to all active moms who are breastfeeding.

At first, the electric breast pump scared me. However, it must be said that I am a first time mother and I had not used a breast pump before. I thought that using it would be complicated. However, from the first try, I was pleasantly surprised. The instructions included in the box are very clear. The breast pump is easy to assemble, easy to use and is much faster and more efficient than manual breast pumps. The Medela Freestyle Breast Pump is really handy for stocking milk in the freezer. The manual adjustment of the speed makes its use personalized. I especially like its small size which makes it possible to slip it in the baby’s diaper bag and carry it everywhere very easily.

I also used the free breastfeeding support service when I bought the breast pump. A revelation! The advice of the lactation consultants helped me a lot in the first few weeks of breastfeeding and that's what made me not give up.

The only comment I would have is that I had to get a different size of nipple shields than those included in the box since they did not fit me. Maybe we could choose the size of the teats during the purchase?

Overall, I highly recommend the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump for its efficiency, easy use, and comfort.

Ear infections, antibiotics, and prevention

Becoming a parent also means being acquainted with several small infections encountered during our own childhood. Ear infections are numerous and can leave you having lots of questions. We try to respond to the most frequent ones.

My child is often absentminded!

Do you find yourself often repeating phrases like "Hello? Is anyone there?" ? If so, it seems that your child is often absentminded. Here's how to help your distracted children stay concentrated.

A teenager’s bedroom

Your teenager's bedroom is a disaster. You even invented new words to describe this horrendous place where food and clothes seem to blend into a new kind of carpet but your child doesn't seem to mind. What can you do?

My child is smelly!

Your child is now 6 years old. The innocence of childhood still shines brightly in his or her eyes but… they're smelly! When your child gets hot, you scrunch your nose and smell a tinge of sweat. Are they too young for deodorant?
