Great Green Challenge 2012

Canadians across the country are trying to reduce their home’s environmental impact by participating in the 2012 Great Green Challenge. And we can track their efforts online!

The Bourbeau Family

Three Canadian families who want to adopt a greener lifestyle – the McRae’s of Toronto, the Castro-Lara of Edmonton and the Bourbeau of Québec – have been chosen among over 500 inscriptions on Facebook to take part in the Great Green Challenge, reduce their energy usage and adopt a simpler, greener lifestyle over the course of six weeks.

To kick off the challenge, Whirlpool® home appliances outfitted each participant’s home with ENERGY STAR® qualified and energy and water efficient Whirlpool® appliances, including a dishwasher, refrigerator, range and laundry pair. In addition to show the difference these appliances make, the three families will reduce their environmental impact in their personal and professional lives and track their results on the Great Green Challenge blog and on the Whirlpool brand Facebook page. The energy they use will be calculated with a Blue Line PowerCost Monitor™, a device that displays the results in real-time. We will witness the difference between their current usage and last year’s at the same date, learn their tips to reduce household garbage by composting and so forth. While blogging about the changes they bring in their day-to-day life, these three families will give us tips so we can be greener too!

In addition to following the Challenge online, you can also pledge to try your own Great Green Challenge and enter for a chance to win the ENERGY STAR® qualified Whirlpool® appliances!

Natural Resources Canada recently named Whirlpool Canada the 2011 ENERGY STAR® Manufacturer of the Year for the third year in a row. This prestigious award recognizes the exceptional work done by Whirlpool® Canada in producing and promoting energy-efficient products.

Ear infections, antibiotics, and prevention

Becoming a parent also means being acquainted with several small infections encountered during our own childhood. Ear infections are numerous and can leave you having lots of questions. We try to respond to the most frequent ones.

My child is often absentminded!

Do you find yourself often repeating phrases like "Hello? Is anyone there?" ? If so, it seems that your child is often absentminded. Here's how to help your distracted children stay concentrated.

A teenager’s bedroom

Your teenager's bedroom is a disaster. You even invented new words to describe this horrendous place where food and clothes seem to blend into a new kind of carpet but your child doesn't seem to mind. What can you do?

My child is smelly!

Your child is now 6 years old. The innocence of childhood still shines brightly in his or her eyes but… they're smelly! When your child gets hot, you scrunch your nose and smell a tinge of sweat. Are they too young for deodorant?
