The end result of these calculations will tell you the most probable time for you to get pregnant:
- FOR NORMAL CYCLES (28 or 30 days), ovulation occurs 14 days after the first day of your last period.
- FOR SHORT CYCLES (21 days), ovulation occurs 7 days after the first day of your last period.
- FOR LONG CYCLES (35 days), which are exceptional cases, ovulation occurs 21 days after the first day of your last period.
The more stable your menstrual cycle is, the more precise and reliable your ovulation date will be.
For example, if you have a 28 day cycle and the first day of your period was January 16th, your next ovulation would be calculated like this:
January 16th + 14 days = January 30th
Fertilization becomes possible at this time since an ovum was released from one of your ovaries and has started moving into your Fallopian tube. Upon arrival, the ovum has a maximum life span of 24 hours to be fertilized. If the ovum is not fertilized, it will be disposed of during the following period through the endometrium.
To get your ovulation date, other reliable methods exist. You can buy an ovulation test in any drugstore. It will tell you the amount of LH hormones present during your ovulation period.
The thermometer is very useful for taking the uterus’ temperature because it shows the heat curve of your ovulation period. This is a great method to use if your cycle is irregular or if you can’t make a precise calculation of your ovulation date.
