Yesterday I received my daughter's report card and it was great! I met her teachers, saw her little locker and all the crafts that she has made in the past three months...
She has all A's!!! Except in gym! Oops! She is not the best in gym... In fact, she is not good at all ![]() She told me: ?I don't like to do gym because Mr Hassan always wants me to run ![]() My boyfriend and I were laughing like crazy!!! I have to say that my daughter is always keeping her brain busy by doing puzzles and crafts or playing computer games. She loves to talk and learn, she speaks three languages and she is very curious. But when we go out for a walk, it is like the end of the world for her!!! My question is: should I push her to do more sports even though she hates it? |

Well, is she fond of pets? if yes then go for a dog & ask her to take care of the dog specially the outside activities, like taking the dog for a walk. If not then Vimmi has already given a better idea.

As a child I did not have very good balance or coordination, so like Weeza, I did not like team sports. However, I loved playing outside or on my own. The trick my parents used whenever I was complaining was to make physical activity into a game.
Example: Instead of just going for a walk, set a goal to get somewhere in a certain amount of time or go a certain distance. Or try scavenger hunts on the walk. Children who prefer mental exercise to physical exercise need to be challenged. |

My daughter is the same (except that she's only 2 yo). She's all about puzzles and crafts and games... but when we go to the park all she does is sit in the sand and draw with a stick or try to catch an ant.
I would say that it would be a good thing to encourage her to do more physical activity... but even more important would be to encourage her to find the fun in it. As a little girl (and even now), I always hated team sports. I hated being picked last. I hated having the whole team angry at me when I did something wrong. But then I discovered cross country skiing, which I loved, because I could do it completly alone. I was so calm out there in the snow... So I did that for many years. Then I took a cross country skiing class to try to improve my techniques (I had never been taught before), and I started hating it. I could no longer just have fun; I was constantly wondering if I was doing it "right"... totally wrecked it for me. I don't know if you get what I am getting at... The important is to find the fun in it! |
