Pregnancy/Maternity

Pregnancy hearsay

No stretch marks for me!

Do you think that you will only gain a bit of weight and that stretch marks only concern women who are not careful? Think again! Some women will have stretch marks no matter what they do. But you know what? Stretch marks are not bad and are only proof that you gave life. That’s much more important things to worry about!

I will never lose all that weight!

Yes, your legs will get bigger and your belly will become huge. Your breasts will also grow, and it could surprise you if you are used to a much smaller bra size. However, just after birth, a lot of water retention will go away, and if you breastfeed, you will also lose a lot of weight. For the rest, you will need a bit of exercise, but it should be easy to motivate you after months of inactivity!

I will give birth when I want!

You have decided to give birth earlier, and you started infusions, torrid nights and intense cleaning? No, ladies, it does not work! Yes, your sexual activity can help soften your cervix but washing the floor with a brush will only make you really tired.

I will never be an “old wife”

A lot of young women are afraid to stop being cool, and some of them even start a blog thinking that “all parenting websites are for old ladies, and I can do better than that ». Some proudly announce that they won’t share their child’s pictures on social media and will never, ever, talk about their family on the Internet. Yet, three months after birth, we see the most beautiful baby in the world appear on Facebook, and their web community help her find a solution to soothe her baby’s sore gums. And anyway, being an “old wife” is not as uncool as one would think.

I will never sleep well again

Between her big belly, her swollen feet and her gastric reflux, a pregnant woman who is about to give birth hears terrible stories about babies who never sleep, and they can see themselves exhausted a year later. Don’t worry, after three or four months, most babies let their parents sleep all night.

I will never go out again

Our friends who have children never go out, only go to the cinema for family movies and can’t find a babysitter to go to the restaurant with friends… Is it so hard to go out when you have children? Yes and no. Mothers go out a good deal less when children are very young because they need her a lot, but it is not impossible. However, you can expect your priorities to change, and you may not want to go out so much when you become a parent because your family will fulfill a lot of your social needs.

My friends will love my baby!

Yes, you can see yourself walking around with your friends and your stroller, and you are pretty sure that nothing will change between you and your friends. In fact, things will change a lot and if your best friends are likely to love your baby as if it was their own, other friends and acquaintances will probably stop seeing you. Don’t worry about it, you will soon make new friends who have babies too and share the same responsibilities and interests!

Times have changed, grandma!

Maybe she wasn’t always right at the time but your grandmother has seen a lot of babies in her life and although she was wrong about your belly being a boy’s belly, she could very well be right about the baby’s colic…

My partner will see me as a mother

You are not a girl anymore; you are a woman who gave birth to a child! However, being a woman is wonderful and your partner knows that. It is now your turn to accept yourself as you are and to find new references to appreciate the beauty that you have become.

I will never move to the suburbs

Never say never! For the first years of your child's life, you can easily stay where you are but when your child begins to play outside and needs a school, it could change your mind. You’ll see: a suburb that looked awful from a distance might just as well be like paradise for your family.

Ear infections, antibiotics, and prevention

Becoming a parent also means being acquainted with several small infections encountered during our own childhood. Ear infections are numerous and can leave you having lots of questions. We try to respond to the most frequent ones.

My child is often absentminded!

A teenager’s bedroom

Your teenager's bedroom is a disaster. You even invented new words to describe this horrendous place where food and clothes seem to blend into a new kind of carpet but your child doesn't seem to mind. What can you do?

My child is smelly!

Your child is now 6 years old. The innocence of childhood still shines brightly in his or her eyes but… they're smelly! When your child gets hot, you scrunch your nose and smell a tinge of sweat. Are they too young for deodorant?
